Since our founding in 1991 RoTo has developed collaborative working relationships with clients who operate at the frontiers of their particular fields. These clients include the first Native American university in America, the governor and prefecture of Nagasaki, Japan, an independent media creation studio, a play development and education center for a leading theater company and university drama program, and an international management consulting and business transformation firm. The unique interests and relationships with our clients have led to a body of work where different ways of making architecture is explored.
RoTo has completed a wide range of project types of varying scope and complexity. By creating collaborative associations that take advantage of the dissolving boundaries between the fields of design, science, technology and the fine arts, RoTo has become a specialist in finding non-standard solutions to unconventional and design challenges. In addition to architectural design, RoTo services include strategic consulting to non-profit organizations with building or planning programs, campus planning, the planning and design of rural communities, and land use design for natural and cultural conservation.
RoTo has received many awards for the design of our projects as well as for our role as educators in the community. Projects including the Hollywood Orange Building, the Carlson-Reges Residence, the View Silo House, and the Sinte Gleska University have all been recognized for their design excellence. This diverse body of work reflects the firm's overall philosophy -- each project is unique and a high degree of energy and enthusiasm is devoted to every endeavor in order to discover a natural solution to design challenges. Our signature process is predicated on the belief and experience that the quality of the final project is in proportion to the quality of the relationship we have with the client, the culture, and the place.
THE OFFICE
A respect for and celebration of individual knowledge, talent, and experience guide our collaborative approach to the authorship of our work. We have assembled an organization of individuals who share a generosity of spirit and yet maintain divergent formal skills and world views. The openness within RoTo has also made it possible for us to collaborate in a genuine sense with those who commission and inhabit the architecture we facilitate. We enthusiastically embrace found conditions and conventions as an opportunity for improvisation.
