In 2010, the Government of Ecuador asked for a competition to design the new Metropolitan Park in the Samanes neighborhood. This commission is part a large multi-purpose project called Ecological Guayaquil which seeks to increase rapidly the amount of green area per inhabitant and reach the 9 m2/inh. according the World Health Organization. The project is compounded by 130 Ha. of Natural Reserve and 240 Ha. intended to the Park. The idea is to link up an acuatic and terrestrial program due to its proximity to the river, that operates as a hub for integrating the city.  The park would offer the opportunity either than pasive and active activites, as new opportunities of jobs for citizens.
