FOLLOW THE YELLOW "BRICK" ROAD

FOLLOW THE YELLOW “BRICK” ROAD for an experience that is as much about the journey as it is the destination. The adventure for bike riders on campus begins with a raised path where cyclists can safely ride no matter where or when they travel. Luminescent yellow Bioasphalt, a sustainable material, will make the bike path usable year round, increasing safety and way finding any time of day. FOLLOW THE YELLOW “BRICK” ROAD will create an inviting year round experience for everyone that unifies the campus.
Cyclists coming from further distances will be able to utilize the bike stop nodes at their own convenience. These nodes build on the idea of unity by creating a distinct architectural language. Locations 1, 2 and 5 are smaller scale for quick stops, self-service, and bike storage. The medium node, 4, adds a manned bike repair facility and shop. The larger node, 3, adds food and beverage shops.
FOLLOW THE YELLOW “BRICK” ROAD leads to the Grove as the primary attraction, depicting a sense of adventure as the journey and destination become one. The figure eight pathway weaves the cyclists from higher to lower levels. The smaller circle will contain all the features from the nodes with the addition of showering and lavatory facilities. The larger circle provides other amenities and tranquil green spaces.
To increase sustainability of the infrastructure it will utilize a grey water recycling system for plumbing to aid in the reduction of fresh water waste. With the implementation of retail, both cyclists and non-cyclists alike can occupy the Grove all year round while also generating revenue to maintain the biking infrastructure and create new revenue for the University.
