The city of Cirella is located by the Tyrrhenian sea in the region of Calabria. Even though this old city was abandoned near the site there is a Theater of the Ruins of Cirella, an open theatre where the Summer Festival takes place every year. The idea of the project is to use the site of the ruins of Cirella to create an open diffused theatre which would be connected to the existing one. This way the fragmented image of the lost city forms a connected sequence of spaces accessible without touching the ruins. This project draws reference from Dante’s Inferno as the design concept is a series of concentric circles which serve as accessibility paths. These C-paths are used both for stage and for experiencing the city as a user (to get lost inside walking on or in- between the ruins). Using the ruins to provide spaces for cultural events gives an opportunity to breathe in life to a previously abandoned place and to activate it throughout the whole year.
