Bereavement Center

Spring 2010

Studio with Angie Co

This semester the same program was given to each third year studio.  We were to develop a Bereavement center for St. Elizabeth’s Hospital located in Covington, KY.  In the beginning my studio started out by looking throughly into a habit each student had.  My habit was OCD in that I have to check all the candles before I can leave my apartmentt.  From there we studied different diagram strategies, and created our own based on the habit.   From there I did a material study based on string and the tension and patterns that could be made with the addition of nails.  The final building for the Beavement center took into play the size and function of nodes, wrappings (enclosure and individual), and private versus public.  The building displayed an idea of heirarchy based on controlled procession and and groupings of rooms.
