I just finished my first year of grad school in the architecture program at the University of Kentucky.
Worked at a firm over the summer (Luckett & Associates) allowed me to gain a better understanding of how a firm operates, and to get a feel for what is to be expected of me when I enter the work force next year.
A goal I am holding myself to is that i want to design and build my own house once I'm a licensed architect, and also to become LEED certified.
University of Kentucky, Lexington KY, Student Worker
I work mainly with the scholarship coordinator inputting data into spreadsheets and a website (to be able to see the data in a variety of ways), calling high schools to request transcript of students, organizing the files received, and more.
Also, I do other tasks for those in the office, which includes picking/delivering/sorting mail, taking care of everyone's recycling bins, cleaning the kitchen/copy area, and other tasks that are asked of me.
Working along with the Engineering Career Coordinator, I posted online jobs being offered to a variety of engineering majors. Also, I designed a map of Kentucky with all the locations of various companies that worked with the coordinator that was shown at the funding meeting.
I designed a t-shirt for the Germany Engineering summer study abroad, which in the end was printed and given to the students.
Luckett & Associates, Louisville, KY, US, Summer Intern
Handled multiple projects throughout the time I worked there. This dealt mainly with renovation jobs and taking old, abandoned homes in downtown Louisville and changing them into several living units (two per home). The programs mainly used were AutoCad 2013 and Adobe Illustrator CS6.
Help from outside the office was needed to measure the existing houses in downtown Louisville, so I was put in charge of posting the job online and through the University of Kentucky College of Designs listserve. From there I managed the people that were hired by keeping track of their progress on measuring and getting the files from them.
I even designed several logo options for the firm, which didn't have one at the time.
Also, I helped out with any technical computer problems, and taught one co-worker how to use Adobe Illustrator CS6, Microsoft Office Word, and Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
Blazer Cafe, Lexington KY, Sous Chef
I started as just a student worker, but after a semester of working there they promoted me to Sous Chef. I worked along with the chefs in the back, prepared special meals, made omelets for breakfast crowd, etc.
Tau Sigma Delta, Other
This co-ed fraternity invites only students that are in the top 10% of their class. I was the Secretary of the club, and was in charge of taking the minutes for each meeting.
Dean's List, Award
Got this award fro maintaining a 3.5+ GPA. I received this award 7 out of my 8 semesters in undergrad.
