At The University of Vermont Medical Center, we utilized a multi-faceted approach to integrating patient and family input through the planning and design process for the new $190M Miller Building project. Patient immersion research, a patient-centered design team, patient satisfaction surveys, and pilot projects were combined with an active patient and family focus group that enhanced design. These patient and family participants have stayed on through the construction and delivery process, providing feedback and supporting the project in the community. By placing patients at the core of the decision matrix, unique solutions were created to provide comfort to a diverse patient population.
