The owners purchased this unit with the intent to maximize the living space without loosing the second bedroom. The original layout had both bedrooms fronting on 55th Street, with an interior living space that only received daylight from an interior service courtyard window. By playing off the angle of the exterior wall of the interior courtyard, I was able to create a true second bedroom that followed the same angle, thus allowing for better sight lines from the open kitchen into the dining and living areas. The angled wall becomes a central feature, allowing for a more dynamic layout. The ceiling structure and trim is exposed, and plays off of the new walls which intersect with the ceiling.
Upon completion of the apartment layout and design the design development package was provided to Bo Lee Architects.
