Tampa, FL
Located on one of the last remaining undeveloped citrus groves in Pinellas County, the Largo Community Center is the newest addition to the city’s arts and cultural resources. Designed to symbolize the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability, the facility blends the latest trends in building technology and design to support the arts and education for the youth and senior adult population of the city. The 30,000+ SF, LEED Platinum certified building features three studio rooms, a ballroom, commercial kitchen, fitness room, art studio and card room. The completed project is an extensive native plant restoration that integrates storm water collection and management. The stormwater is used as both water features and supply of irrigation for the planted areas. Rainwater is collected from the roof top and distributed to two fountains located at the front entry and back patio of the building. Once collected in the fountain, the water flows into a shallow runnel until it reaches a holding pond located within the site’s stormwater management ponds. There, the water is held and re-circulated back to the building to provide for a continuous flow.
