Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Townhall (Option 1)

YEAR 2021
SIZE 5600 m2
KEYWORDS sustainability, porosity, epd verified

After the severe damage inflicted by the 2020 Izmir earthquake, it became necessary to propose a reconstruction plan for the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Townhall. This innovative design aims to seamlessly integrate the Mayor’s Office, the Private Secretary’s Office, the Assembly Hall, key Service Units like HİM, and an exclusive Tourism Info section that will serve as a hub for sales, promotional activities, and digital displays.

The core concept pivots around four distinct segments, each carefully crafted with spatial and functional criteria in mind. These divisions subtly echo the foundational architectural characteristics of the prior building, particularly the vertical row sunshades that were a hallmark but had to be removed due to safety concerns. This design reincorporates them in a modernistic style, ensuring a blend of tradition and contemporary flair.

Furthermore, the arrangement of facade elements is specifically tailored using solar analyses and insights derived from the former structure, facilitating maximum energy efficiency and comfort. Prioritizing the Municipality’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan, this project emphasizes climate responsiveness, energy neutrality, and overall sustainability. Its vision sets the bar high for eco-friendly urban advancements, symbolizing a transition towards greener infrastructures.
