Part II:
The design of contemporary structures, specifically smaller scale public space and residential architecture, has become static in its design, in building method, building type, and period-specific design ideals. Architecture in this scale needs to begin to think critically about itself; it is time to challenge the comfort zone, long since outdated, of the contemporary dweller.
It is the responsibility of the architect to respect the steadfast, but also to challenge by maintaining an active awareness of developing technological feats; smart domestic technologies lead to the development of new sensory experiences, urban density solutions, and utilization of preexisting site conditions which had been previously neglected and mishandled.
