Awaji Island is connected to mainland Honshu via the Akashi Kaikyo bridge, the longest suspension bridge in Japan.

Yumbutai is is located on the hillside that was completely stripped for soil in order to make Kansai Airport (Renzo Piano designed airport built on fill in Osaka Bay). Ando's concrete landscape and gardens replaced the scarred hillside with a maze of pools, botanical gardens, amphitheaters, shops, restaurants, and what looks like a very nice and very expensive Westin Hotel. There is also an international conference center.
