a short rant
it seems the drl is having an existential problem with it trying to redefine itself with comments like 'this isnt drl' being made in reviews; and when i refer to the portion of the drl that is facing this problem it is hard to for me to define who it is; a weird mixture of a few tutors, a small number of the current students and a few graduates all leads to some sort of collective questioning and doubt.
larger numbers, an apparent increase in applicants and an implicit desire to remain in the limelight all seems to be taking its toll on this course
still there is a few within the drl who bother to ask a few questions remember that we are not the digital research lab, a few who aren't taken by the supposed cool factor of the courses here(some one hinted at that in the discussion board?) and as someone smart put it recently 'know the difference between notation and research.' and who know why they joined......
apologies for the useless rant but ive been asked a lot of questions about the course by people recently and ive been seeing my share of bad decisions (mine included) and while this doesnt answer many of the 'parametrically'.... related questions i hope it does reflect something of the course.
on a lighter note will put up some scenic shots of hooke park in the spring (frei otto eye candy) just as soon as im done compiling them.

actually, it would be interesting to have you further elaborate.there's expression of something still too covert in your somewhat opaque 'rant'. care to clarify?
re:coolness
yes, but i didn't hint, i stated along with others also here. the currency of perpetual "avant-garde", the flaunted internationalism, the rich AND clever kids, the poor AND cleverer kids, the louis vuitton laptop cases, the London grit, the peculairity of an indistinct georgian townhouse housing a plethora of fantastic utopias and futures. irrespective of who's taken aback by it..in fact, its far 'cooler' to not be taken aback by it.
something about the drl from afar strikes me as a taut coming-together of a globally leftist sensibility of fatalistic necessity in rendering individuals into cogs in an agenda-programmed machine (the production of labour by virtue of working groups composed of anonymous cosmo-individuals (vis a vis the international roll of their names...japanese, arab, greek, north american, indian...etc) with the wanton glamourousness of fabricating architectures not necessitated by the present. the left addresses the woes of the present, the right addresses the richenss of the future...the drl seems to bring both rhetorics together to use them against each other. but then again, that would not be peculair to the drl; its symptomatic of late capitalism.
laish ouch?
noc
i think you make a good point in your response
but still the days of vuitton are over
and while i may understand your point on it not being necessitated by the present, there are people here working on relevant issues for a longer than most period of time, im not saying everyone is...
in terms of clarifying the 'rant' i ll try to put up more work from around the program and let that discussion kind of clarify things hopefully.
write more, please
