This blog is for the Summer School at the Architectural Association- a program that brings together students from 18 years old and up. The full-time three-week course presents a challenging programme of design studios, field study, seminars and lectures. It offers participants a range of diverse design approaches, agendas and techniques, and represents a uniquely intensive and intimate environment that aims to expand formal and intellectual resources. L.A. Experiential II builds on last year’s edition and on Los Angeles’ role as the world’s entertainment capital. Students will continue exploring new forms of spatial experiences for the media, entertainment, and music festival venues with the added element of virtual reality and will use sound to simulate virtual environments. AA Visiting School Dubai intends to examine the cultural and ecological fabric of the United Arab Emirates, as a precedent to generating a series of pavilions that would represent the candidate hosting country of the upcoming expo. The process involves breaking away from the cliché of dismissing Dubai as a ‘collage city’ with no cultural or urban identity, going beyond that to formalise a novel archetype that speaks of what is it that makes Dubai a key global player in today’s contemporary world
The next edition of The Architectural Association Visiting School will take place in Jordan from September 1st to 10th. Here we will publish coverage of the 10-day programme set between Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum and share day to day events, activities and works throughout the workshop.
