A small summerhouse inherited from a great aunt was transformed into a year-round home for a retiring couple. This involved a renovation of the interior of the house, expanding the kitchen and adding on a master bedroom suite, the construction of a separate garage with gardening room, and an elevated pergola to connect the two structures. The exterior of the original house was re-clad in local cedar shingle to create a cohesive look across all structures on the site. Landscaping was an important aspect of this project, and the new constructions were situated on the plot so as to preserve key trees and shrubs on the property.
My role in this project consisted of the design of the garage and pergola, conducting design and progress meetings with the client, a full site measure-up and survey, the production and coordination of a complete construction document set, and coordination with the structural engineer and landscape architect.
