Historical Renovation: Luxury Apartments

Originally constructed in 1861, this Back Bay brick structure had fallen into disrepair, and was in need of restoration and upgrading. The focus of the project was the design of four luxury apartments on the upper floors, situated above the reconstructed entrance lobby and two commercial spaces on the ground and lower floors. The existing infill from the apartments was stripped back to reveal the period finishes and details, and modern additions such as a state-of-the-art kitchen and master bathroom, as well as balconies and a roof deck, were added. The interiors of the apartments were redesigned to maximize the liveable space and highlight the existing features such as high ceilings, large tall windows, and hard wood flooring.

My role in this project consisted of the completion of a full permit set, coordinating with the HVAC and structural engineer’s plans, meetings with the contractor and interior designer, and site visits to monitor the progress of the construction.
