This 133-room business hotel, close to the ExCeL Conference Centre and City Airport, is part of the continued regeneration of the Royal Docks area, just beyond the Isle of Dogs.

Sited on what will become a ‘high street’ for Royals Business Park, the hotel has been a test subject for the architectural guidelines of the Development Framework Plan. As well as establishing a tone and context for the future business district, the design has been developed through positive consultation with an unusually large number of stakeholders, including London Development Agency, Design For London and Newham Council.

The final building, though straightforward in plan, takes Travelodge into new design territory, with elevations dominated by a grid of fine brickwork with extensive corbelling and crisp detailing, deep reveals and full-height windows throughout.
