ROEM Rosemary Affordable Housing

A multi-generational approach to affordable housing creates a vibrant community in San Jose, CA.

The project pivots around a public tree-lined paseo, which encourages interaction between senior housing to the west and family housing to the east.  From this paseo, a series of traditional and linear gardens unfold to encourage communal living.  Courtyards feature a variety of seating arrangements for many types of social interactions.  An access road wrapping the project becomes a green trail with the addition of grass pavers and a meandering walkway.  Sight lines into the project’s lushly landscaped courtyards and articulated facades activate the streetscape.  Open space was consolidated and maximized to enhance community.

Attention to detail and quality permeate the project, from the richly appointed leasing facility, to the stone building facades and water feature.  The family portion of the project features three-bedroom units, a stimulating tot lot and dedicated classroom/media room.  The senior portion of the project is accessed through a formal motor-court and imparts style to efficient living.  Special attention was paid to walking distances and transit-oriented development, with the project’s adjacency to a transit line.

Characterized by striking canopied rooflines and clean, contemporary elevations, the project optimizes building efficiencies to offer, not only quality housing, but opportunities for rich community.
