I first became acquainted with CAD in the seventh grade. I took a technology class that included modules on CAD, circuits, aerodynamics, and other awesome topics. We even learned how to build a solar oven that cooked hot dogs. In middle school, the extent of my CAD was used to fashion key chains and other tchotchkes on a fabrication machine we had in the drafting lab.
By the time I took drafting in high school, AutoCAD had been released. The exercises were much more in depth, but focused mainly in the realm of product design.
