Mr Impossible 2017

This task is another experiment with steel rods. The scale of the model is big enough to fabricate in 24 hours (8 hours for each part of the whole prototype). The design of the form challenges steel bending skills. The outcome has a hierarchy of the variable thicknesses of 2 types of mild steel. Bending and soldering with the 2.4 mm diameter rods is easier than with the 1.6 mm ones because of their low resilience and bigger areas of surface attachment.

Building the joints between the three parts is not too difficult when those joining rods are bent at the same time to achieve the accuracy of the joints as well as the behaviour of the design. To give the thickness and firmness to the big prototype, there are some offset parts that look confusing while fabricating. The three parts require different concerns about scales, the number of segments and the quality of bent rods of the offset trusses. They are all divided as each 8-hour fabricated object, which is achievable. Tracking with curly parts is not really a matter in this project because this is a small scale prototype. Bending and soldering are still the main factors of the success of this fabrication.
