The Center for Health Care Services (CHCS) provides mental health, developmental disability and substance abuse services for Bexar County, Texas. CHCS maintains cooperative arrangements with a number of other social service agencies, including University Health System and a nearby homeless shelter. Growing demand for CHCS services, including the country-operated methadone clinic, placed pressure on the center’s existing outdated facilities.
The CHCS board opted to renovate the 4,000 SF existing facility and connect it to a new 14,500 SF building, both designed to provide a state-of-the-art environment for counseling, treatment and clinical services.
Parsons and DHR teamed as project manager for design and construction of the Roberto L. Jimenez, M.D., Restoration Center. We hired the design architects and took part in design team interviews with various CHCS clinics and departments. As DHR representative, I managed quality assurance in design and construction, special testing and move coordination.
