Stitch House

Imagine a house that can transform into a house for one or four families without moving a thing.

Matthew Rosenberg of M-Rad Studio in Los Angeles is proposing precisely this for a renowned Malibu developer. His stunning #StitchHouse will offer up to 12,000 sqft of breathtaking living experience for one buyer or as little as 1800 sqft for a small family or single resident.

The concept is simple: create a building that houses four separate wings, each with their own self sufficient essentials (and more in most cases!). The wings must be sold at the same time wether one buyer or four. The reason for this is to create a community out of one house. If one buyer purchases the house, the buyer must rent out a portion of the other wings to local artists or through sites such as AirBnB. This element will actually become part of the purchase agreement. Matthew  wants to create a community and therefore needed to design not just the house but the way the house is bought, lived in, and taken care of. He is fostering collaboration in a way that has never been done before. #StitchHouse is designed to enrich the lives of its immediate residents and is doing so by guiding the development of community. In helping shape the way we live in private homes Rosenberg also hope to change the way designers think and create our future neighborhoods.

StitchHouse incorporates Rosenberg's three guiding principles when designing: to foster community, to respect the local culture(s), and to use the climate data available to lessen our ecological footprint.

Rosenberg wants to enhance residents' lives with simple solutions to the issues that accompany modern lifestyles. In this way, a building like StitchHouse can have a profound affect on individuals who live either in or near the project.
