Drammensveien 288 is a large commercial building with a number of tenants, located in Lysaker, near Oslo. The building is 25 years old. It needed renovation work done in the common areas, along with a new reception hall and a new café. The walls and ceiling inside were in good condition and did not need remodelling, so they were used as the basis for the overall design and selecting materials.

LINK Interiør created the drawings for the new interior spaces that gave the building a more modern look, without touching the existing atrium walls. The concept was based on simplification and developing a comprehensive design, which meant the materials chosen for the interior had to be suited to the existing building. LED lighting was used along with pale bamboo; a good choice when one considers environmental protection and sustainability!

The café became a decorate element for the atrium as an inviting spacious opening towards the glazed street. This space is open to everyone. Bamboo profiles were designed in different widths to stretch continuously from both side walls and across the ceiling. This surrounding effect makes the café intimate and cosy. The walls and ceiling become a singularity that encompasses and unifies the space. The lighting and technical equipment are hidden between the profiles. The same design was also used on the ceiling in the reception area to create a holistic and comprehensive look and feel. The rest of the furnishings in the café have dark grey-black surfaces, bamboo and white Corian. The café’s counter was kept low and simple to accentuate exquisite food being offered.

The reception desk are designed to register large numbers of visitors per day because the building hosts many workshops and conferences. There is not a lot of space in the entry hall, so freestanding registration machines were designed specifically for the space along the wall opposite the reception desk.
The reception area design is restrained. A glowing desk with integrated boxes for plants under a countertop of light bamboo. The bamboo is sturdy and can take some wear and tear. The front panel is seamless with a light glow that leads visitors naturally into the building.
LINK Interiør has focused on integrating the new interior to the existing building and have with a simple touch modernized the space with light and furniture.
