The Lebanese-Omani Center aims to create a social and multi - use cultural and performing arts center to celebrate the rich and vibrant culture of Beirut, Lebanon. Formally, the center responds to the urban plaza by slicing and lifting at the entry, establishing a social interchange between the streets and performance. A formal ramping strategy guides the circulation between program and further encourages the lifting action at the street level - thus creating "open" zones/slices for impromptu performance, and so on. These three lifts are structural rings which are warren trusses and are cantilevered off of each other. The concept of the "veil" arises as a cultural artifact and is manifested in two facades, an exterior and an evolution of it on the interior. Tying back to the formal gesture, the veil responds to a pulling motion that is expressed in a variation of opening.s From the pulling motion of the form, a rip is created, forming an atrium which allows light to pass in front of the theater. With the secondary veil on the theater wall, this lighting affect illuminates figures which walk on the balconies behind it. The peeling and pulling of the overall form of the building distinguishes programmatic zones which are all accessible through the transcendence of the inner light well, between two veils.
