Multi Housing Blocks in the City

The exercise aims at the development of collective housing units, as well as commercial spaces and outdoor areas for collective use in a specific location: the interior of the block “Cinema Roma“.

The pre-existence is assumed as the setting of life in a community and this piece of the city, within the block, reserves a more particular and personal living space. Here, the terrain rises from the street, working as a stage to the rear of the surrounding housing. Although there is a spirit, delicious to be preserved, which brings together notions of neighbourship and neighbourhood, the program is developed in order to structure new relationships between the existing and the void, preserving the existing spirit.

The commercial space is assumed as the structuring element through the form of an “arm“, tearing the ground and opening in a form of an arch, while “distributes“ the blocks of vertical access for the three residential buildings.

The intersection of the blocks with the “arm“ results in a bearing that articulates the new direction of the housing blocks imposing a rotation that dissolves on the terrain as if sliding to the final position, showing the desire to welcome the people that arrive to this space. The direction taken by the last block allows to foresee the green spaces, creating the desire to discover this succession of  nvironments that will reveal rich nooks and areas of contemplation.

Rhythm, movement and rotation have in common the energy of a neighbourly spirit in this urban  context. A fragment of the city that maintains old relationships and intends to structure new ones.
