One Typological Reasoning

The recognition of Tainan’s potential for a productive urban development, was a task accomplished in a 10 days intensive workshop, in collaboration with Tainan’s National Cheng Kung University (NCKU).

We were presented with 5 empty sites that are still very desirable assets for private investors that
wish to turn them into malls, office towers, residential blocks or all of them together.
Tainan for this reason, becomes the dream for any urban planner, facing the challenge of the possible re-qualification of a city that has the money to invest in urban changes, but lacks the urban perspective that enhances the typological reasoning as a tool to identify interesting platforms of collaborations that combined in one urban master plan, could transform the productive dynamic of the city, now seen as a whole multi- scalar network.
Our group took 2 of those sites and we decided to test and confront two different organizational and
structural logics for the new developments: The first, based on the model of repetition on site 1, and
the second based on the model of ‘Bigness’ in site 2.
