The site for this undergraduate project is between Ball State’s main academic street McKinley Avenue and the commercial “Village.” Consequently, this design aims to connect these two areas and establish a place for a diversity of students. The main exterior pathway connects the two streets and runs directly through the heart of the multicultural center. This portion of the site is also the building’s courtyard, which is intended to facilitate social interactions via student-oriented spaces (see renderings). In addition, the facades turning inward on this court utilize abundant glazing for transparency in order to welcome all passing students, and the use of wood on the interior creates a warm, comfortable setting.
