In Portland, Oregon, this site is located at the intersection of the Pearl District, Downtown, and Chinatown/Old Towne. This convergence sets the tone for a new municipal courthouse building. The design concept originates from this notion and builds upon it by establishing its geometry from the angled street grids’ intersection on this site. With the site’s inherent quality of having the capability of reaching into these districts, the design gives priority to giving back to the communities’ residents. The building establishes a refreshed and local-inspired identity, and it responds to and generates energy and resources from the surrounding natural environment.
