Conflence

This project took place in a famous School of engineering located in Lille (France).  In response to the establishment’s increasing popularity and international relationships, the school needed a new space to host receptions and exhibitions in its main courtyard.

The idea was to create an atmosphere inspired by the confluence of a sky and landscape. This was materialized by using the reflection of a curved aluminum roof mixed with the colors of an undulating brick floor.

From this multi-functional space visitors can have access to the basement dedicated to the student’s exhibitions. In this dark room, people are oriented by natural spot lights illuminating the artwork through a structure of brick vaults.

Here, the poetic transformation of materials shapes the feeling of the space creating a venue for many possibilities.

« The atmosphere affects me and puts me in a specific mood. »
        Peter Zumthor
