I love songs / lyrics that that play as though it is a screenplay for a movie. I wanted to pick my favorite lyric but they were too many. A story of a small town girl wanting to get away as everyone does in a small town. Her brother got away but only as far as Vietnam. She got caught up in life and the blues found her because her dream of leaving was over. After trying to dull the pain and her disappointment in life she died. I love how Emmylou tied the image of the hammer from the third verse of making a "joyful sound" signifying the joys and hopes of youth to the image of the hammer in the last verse. Where she she laid the hammer down "without a sound" signifying dreams left unrealized.
This song is relatable because just about everybody has a life that they would rather be living or dreams to chase but because of economics or family commitments are stuck in the life they are in. Be honest with yourself would you trade everything in your life that you now have to chase your dreams? Or maybe a better question is knowing what you know now would you have made different choices earlier to to be now living your dream?

Ike Reilly's seventh album was released last Tuesday. The title track Born on Fire is great (I especially love the harmonizing) but I can't find it online, so here is a second track, Hangin' Around.
I heard an interview about Gimme Shelter; the song was recorded in the overbite, they called in this background singer at 1:30 in the morning. She came in in curlers and a housecoat and laid down her vocals.
