Erbar Mattes is an architecture studio based in London. We are passionate about the design and realisation of well-crafted buildings, focusing on the timeless qualities of space, light and material, irrespective of budget or scale. Aspiring to design unique places for individual clients and the community, we respond creatively to specific needs and contexts. On a series of projects currently under construction and in planning stage, our clients benefit from an exceptional level of care and attention to detail.
Demian Erbar, Architect ARB RIBA
Demian studied architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome and the Technical University in Aachen, where he graduated in 2006. He gained extensive professional experience working in architecture practices in Germany and Argentina prior to joining David Chipperfield Architects in London in 2008. There he led the design and construction of a series of high profile projects, including the Hepworth Wakefield Gallery Interiors, an artist's studio in Norfolk and a high end residential development in Westminster. Demian has been working as an independent architect in London since 2014 and co-founded Erbar Mattes in 2015. Alongside practice, Demian is engaged as a sessional lecturer at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University.
Holger Mattes, Architect ARB RIBA
Holger studied architecture at the Technical Universities in Aachen, Delft and Berlin, where he graduated in 2001. He has extensive experience managing design teams and realising high profile projects in the UK and abroad. He was Associate at David Chipperfield Architects in London from 2007 to 2013 where he led the design and construction of the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery in Margate, residential developments in London and Atlanta and a hotel in Doha for Qatar Foundation and Hermès. In 2013/14 he secured planning for Brentford Lock, a residential development in London with 140 units, working as Associate at Mae Architects. Holger is a sessional lecturer at the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury. He has previously taught architecture as Assistant Professor at the Technical University in Aachen, Germany, and was visiting critic at the Bartlett, University College London, and The Cass, London Metropolitan University.
