Terwilliger plaza, is an urban high-end senior living of continuous care, right outside of Portland downtown. The added New 10 story high rise independent living building which is one of the first built to the Passive house standards senior living facilities, is connected to the existing campus via a dynamic skybridge that acts as an Art Gallery to encourage the sense of community among residents.
Connecting the new building to the existing campus across the street via a sky bridge, which was tapered to gradually merge with the lounge space in the new building blurring the line between bridge and lounge. That bridge design, when presented to the design commission who were anti-bridges for the last decade they not only approved it but commented “this design sets the standard for skybridges in Portland”
The project consists of 127 independent Senior living units, condo level design and finishes, parking on 3 levels,Amenities are shared among the campus, but this building adds Bar and Lounge, auditorium, conference rooms, a courtyard and a roof deck. The client being dedicated to sustainability have thought to design the building to Passive House standards and is a Path to Net Zero certified building, To comply with these principles, the team worked on reducing the energy use of the building through a tight and well insulated envelope, thermally broken connections, rain screen façade system and solar shading, in addition to the use of energy efficient plumbing and lighting fixtures. solar panels provide 30% of the building power.
