WILDERARCHITECTURE, Inc. was commissioned to plan and design renovations for the historically significant Hillsborough High School, originally constructed in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project is one of the most significant buildings in Florida and the “Crown Jewel” of the Hillsborough County School District in Tampa, Florida. The three story facility is a classic example of Gothic Revival Architecture is a major contributing historic structure, anchoring the south end of the Seminole Heights Historic District. The campus  remained fully operational throughout the renovation.

The project involved the total renovation of the facility, including the auditorium, classrooms, cafeteria, servery, kitchen, and all ancillary spaces. The interior was restored to the original condition, including existing terrazzo and natural wood flooring. Technology upgrades included new air conditioning, lighting, power, data, and communication systems. Exterior work included the restoration of 840 individual windows to reflect the original design of the school. This involved the removal of brick infill that was installed in the original openings when air conditioning was added to the school in the 1970s.

Building materials and mechanical / electrical systems were selected to be both sensitive to the historic nature of the campus and to provide sustainable, energy efficient solutions.
