Hillsborough Community College D-Tech Building, Dale Mabry Campus

WILDERARCHITECTURE was commissioned to design the renovation and remodeling of the Technology (DTEC) Building on Hillsborough Community College’s Dale Mabry Campus. The exterior envelope of this expansive building was re-clad with 70,000 sf of new insulated metal panel system and 14,000 sf of stucco. Additionally, The Teaching Auditorium was renovated to meet 21st century learning standards other interior upgrades were for the toilets in the building.

Our design team’s thorough review of the existing structure and completion of a Life Cycle Cost analysis led to the decision to re-clad the facility with insulated metal panels. Color selection was based on the colors of other campus buildings. careful placement of the panels improved the aesthetics of the building and reduced the building’s scale. In the light well, solid half-wall guard rails were replaced with open railing, providing significantly more day-lighting within the open air, 4-story breezeway and improving safety with additional visual connectivity.

New code compliant windows replaced existing windows and all exterior lighting fixtures were refurbished and re-lamped with long-lasting LED luminaires. Solid doors were replaced with code compliant doors with large windows that bring daylight into the corridors. Project budget for the renovations was met at $4.7 million. The project was completed in March of 2015.  All construction was competed while the building remained occupied and fully operational. Means of egress and all life safety provisions were maintained.
