This project was inspired by our interest in extremely small homes and our passion for making ‘green’ both beautiful and affordable. Our response to the rising interest in the U.S. and abroad for low-impact homes is Small House. This tiny, 495 square foot house is designed to adapt with any landscape and to deliver a comfortable, low cost, green, high performance and aesthetic home to its owner. It can be assembled on-site from one truck load of pre-fabricated components. This reduces construction time and guarantees quality, low cost and efficiency. In addition to using recycled materials for construction, this house is also designed to generate and sustain its own water and power needs and can obtain net-zero annual energy consumption. This house follows passive house standards to achieve the highest standard of energy conversation. Other components of the house include:
*rainwater harvesting system for irrigation and non-potable house use
*thermal-bridge free construction
*highest performance mechanical system
*highest indoor air quality
*rotating solar power panels for maximum solar gain and flexibility in house orientation
*electrical system can store power generated by the pv system
*energy-efficient appliances
*low-flow plumbing fixtures
*geothermal mechanical system
*high performance windows
*grey water system
*highly insulated and air tight envelope
