aj205 Classroom Design

Comissioned by the Digital Corps at Ball State University, the purpose of this project was to create a new classroom on campus that catered to collaborative environments. Repurposing a previously bare computer lab used solely for printing purposes, the Emerging Technologies Pro Lab was to become a place on campus for one-on-one software help, utilizing technology that many companies are just now themselves using.

The Digital Corps is a group of professionally certified student media software experts. They offer services in media training to staff and students as well as providing media products for outside sources. To suit the needs of the client, the room is divided into three distinct spaces, providing a screening room, computer work stations, and a lounge area for laptop work.

Design work for the remodel of the Emerging Technologies Pro Lab remained very schematic as it was later found that the classroom was to be utilized by another department on campus within the next year. Though a majority of the work for this project remained on the computer within either Rhino or Sketchup, specific price points were maintained throughout the duration of the design process. Conforming to different price ranges and specifying specific products created my first glimpse of what designing in a firm may be like.
