The Marinha Grande mglass collection is an edition consisting of pieces in glass and crystal designed by 23 Portuguese designers. The mglass showroom in The New York Merchandise Mart at 41 Madison Avenue is their first showroom in the United States. It was designed and constructed by Turett Collaborative Architects in less than two months. TCA's primary goal was to enhance the mostly colored pieces of glass and crystal by designing white fixtures and backgrounds.
TCA designed two modular walls that run floor to ceiling and are made of white powder-coated steel frames that support frosted acrylic panels and thick clear acrylic display boxes for the crystal. Behind the larger wall is a sheer blue and white curtain that lends the space an ephemeral feeling. There are also versatile pedestal display fixtures made of glossy lacquered white MDF, frosted acrylic and clear acrylic. They can be used in several different positions and will be used for future in-store fixturing as well. The floors, walls and perimeter-cantilevered shelving are all white. The overall feeling is that of a pure, luminous, clean space that completely enhances the crystal and glass.
