Anton Kern Gallery

Located at 16 E 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan, Anton Kern Gallery opened its new gallery space in a neighbourhood that was historically New York’s primary gallery district, with art spaces around 57th Street, in proximity to the Museum of Modern Art.

The gallery occupies a converted six-story Federal-style town house. The 12,000 sq.ft. building is now home to more than 5,650 sq.ft. of exhibition rooms spread across the first three levels. The ground floor includes a 22 ft-high space that is overlooked by the gallery on the second floor. The upper levels house an additional 6,350 sq.ft. of offices, private viewing rooms, and art-handling spaces, as well as an artist studio on the top floor.

The facade, wooden beams and staircase of the 1930s town house have been preserved, embracing the original architectural character of the period, while transforming it into a modern gallery. The ground floor was lowered to street level to provide a direct connection to those on the sidewalk and to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for all.
