The Municipality of Cuneo participated at the Territorial Cooperation Program Interreg V-A Italy-France AL-COTRA 2014-2020, MOBIL Project
The MOBIL project wanted to identify and promote sustainable mobility actions in the reference area, to promote tourism and improve the quality of life of the residents.
Among the actions there was a bike station (Velostazione) where bicycles and e-bikes could be securely placed.
The site of the Cuneo railway station was such as to favor the intermodality rail/road with cycle mobility.
The cycle parking project develops from a simple functional and linear scheme with a large corridor on one side and the bicycle stands on the other.
The Velostazione is a rectangular shape with a metal structure made with steel portals, panels and gratings.
The ridge is the characteristic element, and it is exactly the diagonal of the base rectangle.
The wall elements, with two different type of lines, and the gratings form characteristic trapezoidal shapes. These shapes are also repeated in the geometries of the concrete seats and the flowerbed of the square.
The Velostazione building is made up of a modular metal structure, to contain the costs, speed up its execution and maintain significant and concrete economic and environmental sustainability.
The idea was born from the need to create a building realized almost entirely in a mechanical workshop and assembled on site, in order to reduce construction site times.
There wasn’t the necessity to guarantee airtightness, acoustics and thermal insulation, so on opted for a light envelope that is capable to guarante protection from bad weather and, at the same time, to define the architectural character of the building.
A
corten steel “sign” was created to separate the existing parking
area from the pedestrian zone around the building with the letters
that make up the word V E L O S T A Z I O N E. The letters, drilled
at the top, are also bicycle racks .
In addition, in the square was positioned a further covered area for the bicycle park.
