“Wide boulevards connect all 56 sectors in Chandigarh, each designed as a self-contained micro-neighborhood with shops, schools and entertainments. The surroundings are green too, with parks and tree-lined avenues to soften the effect of its largely concrete, block-like buildings. The materials of city planning are: sky, pace, trees, steel and cement; in that order and that hierarchy. -Le Corbusier
Designed by master architect Le Corbusier, the planned city of Chandigarh accounts for sun, shade and green with its thorough design. The orientation of buildings and carefully placed fenestration make it more functional. However, one factor remains unaccounted for, the climate of Chandigarh. The brutalist concrete buildings spare no one during the extreme climates; too hot in summers and too cold in winters.
Inspired by the Marvel character ‘Venom’ this parametric facade takes the form of an existing structure acting as its host providing a temporary shell to cut the solar gain. The origami provides it a liquid-like form and facilitates the opening and closing using a single surface. This parasitic facade gives another layer; a more flexible one to the existing facades of Chandigarh.
