The small resort community of Park City, Utah supports more than 100 non-profit organizations. The task is to design an addition to the historic Miners Hospital, helping transform it into a non-profit center.
The design is based on the idea of parallel paths. Access points create easy routes for workers, donors and clients to enter and exit, having the choice of interconnection or not. When the pathways intersect, the space becomes emphasized withing a communal setting. The curvilinear underground addition supports and emphasizes the historic building in a way that is not overwhelming or domineering.
