The Boston Architectural College is pleased to announce that Felice Silverman '92, IIDA was honored with the Distinguished Alumni in Service Award.  Bob Verrier, AIA, NCARB, President of the BAC Alumni Association, presented Felice with the Award on May 28 at the 2011 BAC Commencement.  She was nominated and selected to receive the award by her alumni peers for the contributions she has made to the community through her practice of Interior Design.

The BAC Alumni Association presents the Distinguished Alumni in Service Award annually to a member of the alumni community who has shown significant service to the College, the community, or the design professions.  Felice was recognized for her dedication to and mentorship of BAC students, collaboration with clients and professionals, and achievements throughout her career as an Interior Designer.

"Felice is an exemplary BAC graduate," said BAC President Ted Landsmark.  "She came back to advise students, teach, serve on our Interior Design Advisory Committee, chair our Student Development Committee and become a member of our Board of Trustees. Her work as a Board member of the IIDA is a model for service to the profession and to our communities. Her firm won a juried competition to redesign our ground floor lobby to make it more inviting and user-friendly, after she consulted with students and staff about our evolving needs. She has worked closely and collaboratively with staff and other faculty volunteers to improve the quality of our teaching, and her thoughtful contributions to the school are always in line with our mission and Strategic Plan. All at the BAC enjoy working with Felice, and her contributions to our students and to the design professions have been immeasurable."

Felice earned a Professional Certificate in Interior Design from the BAC in 1992.  She has been practicing Interior Design for the past twenty years, with a focus on the design of spaces for education, children, healthcare, fitness and commercial office interiors.  She is currently President and Principal at Silverman Trykowski Associates, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts, which she founded in 1996 with Tom Trykowski, AIA, a 1986 BAC graduate.

"I view my involvement with students and young designers - through teaching, advising, mentoring - as my most important contribution to the design community," said Felice.  She currently serves BAC as Co-Chair of the Student Development Committee, Thesis Faculty Representative and Thesis Advisor, and serves the College as a member of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Interior Design Advisory Board.

Felice also contributes to the design community through her involvement with the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).  She is currently a member of the IIDA Board of Directors, where her focus has been on improving and developing continuing educational programs for members, student mentoring, participating in the review of the Interior Design Body of Knowledge, and interfacing with the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC), the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). She was also the 2006-2007 President of the IIDA New England Chapter, and in 2009 received the IIDA New England's Leadership Award.  Through the IIDA Felice has been an active supporter of Interior Design Legislation, and has recently been asked to join the Massachusetts Interior Design Coalition (MIDC) as a member of its Advisory Council.
