The Proposed Light Rail Transit Plan provided University of Georgia with a unique opportunity to add an effective mode of transportation, connecting users from multiple counties to the numerous landmark locations adjacent to the existing CSX rail line.
This project outlines the feasibility of the acquisition of the rail line, and how different train stations could be executed. The main focus of the design project rested upon 10 train stations and a maintenance yard over a 4.4 mile length of track, reaching from downtown Athens to the Whitehall Forest
Best management practices for train lines, rolling stock and station designs were taken into account to provide logical steps needed to make this project a quick success.
