This design, proposed by myself and one other student, was selected for development and construction in Tulane’s flagstaff URBANbuild design+build studio. The concept for the home stems from European courtyard typologies found across New Orleans and employs a deep entry procession to enforce the courtyard’s prominence. Bleeding into the public spaces on the first floor, the courtyard aids in making the small, 1,200sqft. house feel much larger while filling the floor with natural light. Located in the Central City neighborhood of New Orleans, the construction phase of the project took place during the spring semester of 2014. With the exception of MEP and drywall work, the house was built entirely by students, from the foundation to interior finishes. Completed in May (2014), the house is currently inhabited by a first time home owner.
