Reston, VA
Inspired by the historic Warehouse District in nearby Raleigh, the new Mellow Mushroom in suburban Brier Creek, NC pays homage to the neighborhood of re-purposed warehouses, factories, and depots. While all new construction, the 7,000 sf freestanding restaurant takes visual cues and material forms from the collection of red-brick industrial buildings as well as the area’s vibrant arts scene including a mural by visual artist Taylor White. The interior includes an open dining room and large bar, accented by a rustic palette of wood, brick, concrete, metal, and glass. The outdoor patio is surrounded by a landscaped "back yard," the centerpiece of which is a 25-foot-long statue of Poseidon emerging from an earth mound.
