Located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, the project was to redesign the Library that currently is in place. Since it is an existing structure a survey was conducted with the librarians that work in the library and provided many catalysts that helped propel the project to work for and with the community. Due to the large number of families that live in the area, many of which have young children, the library became a heaven for children to come to and get lost in. The first floor is devoted to young children, with stacks that are incorporated with movable/configurable furniture, reading pit, and quite study room; spaces for the staff are also located in this floor for supervision of the children. The second floor is geared towards older children and adults, with lounge spaces, communal tables, small lecture room, and cafe. A lookout bar overlooks the children’s area so that parents may keep an eye on their children while drinking coffee and reading.
