Resting on one important cultural and commercial artery of the city of Ahmadabad, the site is overlooking the Sabarmati river.
The immediate concern is to bridge the formal-requirements of the program with the ancillary, public and mixed spaces.
The challenge here was to provide democratic, public friendly domain, so as to encourage the flow of people of use the building as an extension of the river’s edge; yet having private and secured office spaces for the members of the political party.
This was achieved by separating the office spaces from the civic and more public spaces on the lower floor by ‘a Podium’- an uninterrupted level that works as a huge congregation space.
The upper office floors are organized as formal and internal- private, while the lower amenities that build the podium are grouped to gather in a public module; both connected by service core of the building.
The design of the facade is dictated by the extreme weather conditions of the area so the south and west facades have been treated with deep niches, small openings and curtain walls while the north and the east has huge openings that ensures light penetration and houses the circulation.
