The design challenge in the bike storage project was to create a structure that allows bike communters to lock up their bikes once they get to work. The space was also required to house showering facilites, lockers, changing areas, and restooms for communter to use to get ready for work.
This design explores the use of columns and trusses for the structural system. The over all structure played into the design. This system allowed the south facing facade to be open to natural light. The slope of the roof was designed to block the hot summer sun, while allowing the winter sun to reach in and warm up the interior spaces. The plan was designed with layering in mind. As a communter works their way through the layers they move from public to more private spaces.
