St. Louis Urban Farm

Assignment : Design an urban farm for St. Louis which could be used to produce enough food to feed the entire city.

I began my design process by analyzing the current project (NAME) in Detroit, MI which will eventually be able to supply fresh produce to those who live in the city.  Detroit, like St. Louis, has faced issues revolving around people leaving the city to move out into suburban areas, thus leaving many vacant lots and old buildings.

I designed an urban farm that would serve the dual purpose of both providing produce to the city as well as help revitalize the Arch Grounds.  Around this area, there is currently vacant land, a highway, and multiple train lines.  I proposed that this farm would become a landmark for the city where people would be able to see where their food was being grown as well as buy it at an underground marketplace, taste it at multiple restaurants, and participate in the growing process by walking through the fields and orchards. This downtown public urban farm could be the first of many locations of high rise farms throughout the city, used to revitalized otherwise dead land.
