COMPETITION. FIRST PRIZE
Located in Baoshan district, Shanghai, at the intersection of Tong Ji Road in the east and Shui Road in the north, the site occupies a total area of 40.000 sqm. The project developes a GFA of 100.000 sqm.
The site is divided in two parts. The east part, close to the subway station, defines the urban images. The main buildings of the project are located here, all of them are new constructions, the proposal just preserves one small factory. The west part has another scale, more quiet, this area includes some interesting buildings that we decides to preserve.
The east part includes a commercial podium, one high-rise for offices and three towers for soho. It also contains entertainment functios such as cinemas, KTV, bars, restaurants and clubs. The west part includes a space for exhibitions and small restaurants and bars.
In order to improve the commercial value of this project the design tries to reinforce the connection with the existing subway station in several levels creating circulation circles around the landscape and architecture.
The clean language of this project with the buildings clad in expanded steel and stainless steel remindes the legacy of Bao, the client, and also shows the importance and the power of steel industry in the construction.
